Dear Mound Patrons: This morning we were made aware of a potential threat against the school. We contacted local law enforcement and informed them of the potential threat. Local law enforcement has dealt with the situation. Your students are safe and the school day is proceeding as usual.
As you are probably aware, we had an incident Friday, August 30 involving an adult being on campus. As we became aware of his presence, we began procedures and initiated a lock down, out of caution. Although it quickly became apparent that the visitor was a former student wanting to visit with some of his former teachers, we maintained caution and had the local police chief visit with him. In short order, he was escorted off campus, and the lock down was removed.
As we evaluate our procedures, it has become apparent that we need to do a better job getting information out to parents. Also, we have learned of some changes needed in our procedures as related to dealing with visitors. These will be addressed.
As always, the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. I feel that we did a good job in quickly addressing a potential concern. That is of utmost importance. I do feel that we can improve in our follow-up, and we will learn from our experiences.
Thank you for your help and patience.
Doran Smith, Superintendent
